JaMarcus Russell's Bears workout reportedly 'positive'

JaMarcus Russell dropped the weight. He landed an NFL tryout. It reportedly went well. Now he waits.

Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com reported that Russell drew "positive reviews" for his Friday workout with the Chicago Bears, according to a source at the session.

Brooks: JaMarcus destined to return

JaMarcus Russell might be the biggest flop in NFL history, but Bucky Brooks says the quarterback will get a second chance. **More ...**

The source said that Russell showed a "big arm," had a "good, positive demeanor" and made it clear he had worked himself back into shape. Russell's timing and accuracy weren't always there, but the source said the former No. 1 overall draft pick was solid considering the circumstances.

(No word if the workout included any blank DVD trickery.)

Despite the positive report, Wright believes it's unlikely Russell will be signed by the Bears, who also worked out Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards on Friday. Jay Cutler, Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard already are on the Bears' roster, and the team doesn't plan on carrying four quarterbacks.

Still, positive buzz about Russell's performance should position him for another workout with a team that's less secure in its QB depth chart. It's more undeniable progress in a comeback attempt that continues to gain momentum.
