After being slapped with the franchise tag, Jason Pierre-Paul sat out during offseason workouts waiting for a long-term deal from the New York Giants.
For any Big Blue fan worrying that the defensive end is sitting around gaining weight, the defensive end posted a picture of his feet on a scale displaying a current poundage of 274.7, along with another running drills.
"If anybody had any concern of what I'm weighing right now, well guess what numbers don't lie here it is," JPP wrote on his Instagram account. "My playing weight this year, I'm dropping 10lb baby. I want to be 265lb lets get it."
The Giants list Pierre-Paul at 278 pounds. The weight-loss plan jibes with what defensive tackle Jay Bromleytold NJ Advanced Media after working out with JPP this offseason.
"(The workout) was different," Bromley said. "It wasn't so much about going into the weight room and getting stronger -- if you see him now, he's probably slimmer than he was last year."
It's notable for a player who has dealt with back issues to shed weight. If JPP can play lighter in 2015, he should have a better chance to stay healthy as he tries to earn a long-term deal.
Two years ago, the defensive end dismissed criticism from his own head coach that weight played a role in his diminished performance. Now with big bucks on the line, Pierre-Paul is trying to lose the weight to ensure he stays on the field.
