Jason Witten plays for Cowboys' season opener against Giants

Tight end Jason Witten played for the Dallas Cowboys' regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Wednesday after coach Jason Garrett said Witten would be a game-time decision.

Witten suffered a lacerated spleen in the Cowboys' first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders on Aug. 13.

The Cowboys won 24-17. Witten had two catches for 10 yards, and was flagged for a false start and holding.

Garrett told NFL Network and NFL.com's Kimberly Jones that it was up to team doctors to clear Witten to play.

Cornerback Mike Jenkins, safety Matt Johnson, safety Danny McCray, offensive guard David Arkin, tight end Colin Cochart and nose tackle Jay Ratliff were all listed as inactive for the Cowboys.

Wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan, cornerback Prince Amukamara, running back Da'Rel Scott, offensive guard Mitch Petrus, defensive end Adewale Ojomo, offensive tackle James Brewer and defensive tackle Marvin Austin were listed as inactive for the Giants.
