Some in the New England Patriots organization reportedly came away from joint practices last week with the belief that Kirk Cousins is the best quarterback on the Washington Redskins' roster.
As we took care to spell out Sunday, though, there is no hint of a quarterback controversy in the nation's capital.
Any passer can look good or bad in a short three-day window, especially when contrasted against a competitor facing different personnel on defense.
Coach Jay Gruden confirmed as much on Monday, telling reporters that Robert Griffin III has "the keys to the franchise in his hands" and is "going to take us a long way."
Gruden reiterated a point he emphasized to NFL Media's Albert Breer last week: RGIII's biggest hurdle is learning that every play is not a touchdown.
"There's been a lot of good. There's been some bad, as most QBs go through training camp," Gruden added. "Overall, I think he's making progress at a good rate."
The Washington Post's Mike Jones confirms there "hasn't been a question" as to whether Griffin has been the superior quarterback over 15 training-camp practices.
There will be several starting quarterbacks peeking over their shoulders at the high-profile backup when the 2014 season opens. Griffin won't be one of them.
