Jeremy Maclin tears ACL, will be out for Eagles' season

Ill news out of Philadelphia, where the Eagles are down a wide receiver.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Jeremy Maclinleft Eagles practice Saturday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ending his season, according to someone who has spoken to the receiver.

The Eagleslater confirmed the injury, and Maclin tweeted his thanks to fans for their encouragement.

Rapoport reported the Eagles originally feared Maclin also had torn the medial collateral ligament in the knee during 7-on-7 drills at training camp. But a team source told NFL.com's Albert Breer that Maclin's MCL is fine.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Maclin lay on the ground for approximately five minutes as team trainers worked over him. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly stood by as Maclin lay on his back, and the fifth-year pro covered his face with a towel as he was wheeled away.

"He just came off the line of scrimmage, and his knee buckled a little bit," Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson said, via the team's official website. "It's an unfortunate situation."

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick told McLane: "Usually when a guy falls like that, there's something to be worried about."

Maclin's loss is costly for the Eagles. He's a consistent producer who accounted for 69 receptions, 857 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and he has averaged 65 catches and 863 yards per season in his NFL career.

A source familiar with the team's thinking told Rapoport the Eagles expect to fill the void from within since they like their skill guys. They'd better: Maclin figured to play a pivotal role in Kelly's up-tempo scheme, and now they need another answer.
