The New York Jets have added backup quarterback Drew Stanton with a $1.25 million, 1-year contract.
Stanton tells The Associated Press the deal was agreed to Friday, a day after he arrived to meet with team officials.
The Jets signed Mark Sanchez to a three-year contract extension last week.
Stanton made the most of limited opportunities to play during his first three seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. He was 2-1 as a starter in 2010 with four touchdowns, including one on the ground, and two interceptions. Stanton didn't play last year as Detroit's third-string quarterback behind Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill.
He has completed 56 percent of his passes in 12 career games, including four starts, for 1,158 yards with five TDs and nine interceptions.
