Jets considered drafting WR Hill with 16th pick

The way Rex Ryan tells the tale, the New York Jets walked away from last week's draft with not one, but two players they considered taking with the 16th overall pick.

The first, of course, was defensive end Quinton Coples.

The second was Stephen Hill, the raw, flashy wideout who fell to them in the second round at No. 43.

"Certainly our guys thought that much of (Hill)," Ryan told the New York Daily News on Saturday. "We got the two guys we wanted."

Ryan again swatted down last week's report that New York would have made Bruce Irvin the pick at No. 16 if the Seattle Seahawks hadn't already drafted him.

"I know it's been reported Bruce Irvin was a guy we wanted over Coples. ... That's not true," Ryan said. "I like Bruce Irvin, don't get me wrong. I really liked him. But the two guys we ended up selecting one and two, we had over him."

Were we expecting Ryan to say something else?
