Jets sign Folk to either replace or challenge free-agent kicker Feely

The New York Jets signed former Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk to a one-year contract Tuesday, giving the team insurance in case Jay Feely leaves in free agency.

Financial terms of the deal with Folk weren't disclosed.

Folk made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Cowboys in 2007, but he was cut late last season after he made just 18 of 28 field-goal attempts. Folk also could provide training-camp competition if the Jets do re-sign Feely, who was 30 of 36 on field-goal tries last season.

The Jets also signed free-agent offensive tackle Michael Turkovich, who was in training camp with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent last summer but was released after injuring a knee.
