There's been plenty written about the burgeoning salaries of college head coaches, including Alabama's Nick Saban, who recently crossed the $7 million a year threshold.
Jim Harbaugh, the former 49ers head coach who is now coach at Michigan, seems to agree with the pundits that say coaches make too much. Harbaugh recently told Detroit's Fox 2 that he's not worth the more than $5 million a season his contract says he is worth.
"I like making a buck just like the next guy," Harbaugh said, responding to a follow-up question asking if he'd give the money back. "I'm not doing five times as much work as somebody else or doing more work than someone who's not the head football coach at the University of Michigan. So to answer your question, honestly, I would have to say no."
Harbaugh signed a seven-year contract with his alma mater after leaving San Francisco in a package that has reportedly been valued at nearly $40 million over the life of the deal.
Harbaugh is known for speaking his mind, but perhaps this is one area where his agent would love for him to pipe down.
Michigan fans will think Harbaugh will be worth every penny, however, if he's able to turn around the football program and have the Wolverines competing for national titles again just as the maize and blue used to do nearly a decade ago.
