The Denver Broncos signed veteran safety Jim Leonhard and linebacker Keith Brooking a few weeks ago with the idea of putting them on their 53-man roster.
Both players filled needs at thin positions.
The Denver Post notes, however, that they are hardly locks to make the team because of injuries. Brooking "popped" his hamstring and hasn't been back to practice since. Leonhard was activated off the physically unable to perform list, but still isn't fully ready for practice.
Neither player is expected to see any preseason action, which makes it tough for the Broncos to evaluate them. (As Stephen Jones said, you can't make the club in the tub.) Despite the experience Leonhard and Brooking have, they could be in trouble when final cuts are announced.
