Joe Flacco's offer won't be changed by Super Bowl

Joe Flacco will get a massive contract from the Baltimore Ravens after the season, even if they want to play coy.

General manager Ozzie Newsome said the price tag won't change -- regardless of the outcome of Super Bowl XLVII.

"As I said before, Joe and I are at the same comfort level about his contract," Newsome told reporters Friday, via The Baltimore Sun. "At the end of the day, some people will look at what he does on Sunday afternoon, but I have an entire body of work to look at.

"Joe sits right behind me on the plane rides home. I also know how he practices, how he works out during the offseason. I look to see how he interacts with players, how he reacts to losing, what type of leader he is. Again, it's the entire body of work over five years."

The Ravens have been in the playoffs every year with Flacco, the AFC Championship three times, and now, the Super Bowl. Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis even recently passed the leadership torch to the quarterback.

There's been an ebb and flow to Flacco's play this season and throughout his career. He's not Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, but he's put his team in position to play in the Super Bowl two years in a row. Newsome might have a number in mind, but it better be a big one. And it will rise if Flacco wins a Super Bowl. The last nine Super Bowls were won by quarterbacks named Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Rodgers and Brady.

If you have a quarterback with the skill to join that group, you pay the man what it takes to keep him on the roster.
