SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Federal authorities said former NFL player Johnnie Morton Jr. has been sentenced to two years probation for lying to a grand jury during a criminal probe of his California business associate.

The Internal Revenue Service said Monday that the 40-year-old Morton conceded he lied during a 2009 testimony when he said he did not have business dealings with Neang Chhorvann.
The agency said Morton later acknowledged that he had given Chhorvann more than $2 million to be invested and placed a call for him to one of Chhorvann's associates.
Chhorvann pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering in 2011. He failed to appear for sentencing. The agency said a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Messages were left for Morton's attorneys.
Morton played for the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers from 1994 to 2005, serving mostly as a wide receiver.
