Johnny Manziel's visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars this week will make for a short trip to his next stop.
Manziel will go directly from Jacksonville to visit with Buccaneers officials, according to NFL Media reporter Albert Breer, via Twitter. The Bucs' need for a quarterback isn't as clear-cut as it is for some other clubs, particularly after the team signed Josh McCown to a two-year contract in free agency. But a new coach also means youngster Mike Glennon has to prove himself all over again to a new staff, and adding a rookie to the competition could make plenty of long-term sense.
Bucs head coach Lovie Smith praised Manziel's ability to throw on the run at his pro-day workout on March 27, as quite a few of Manziel's 64 passes that day came on rollouts and simulated scrambles.
Tampa Bay holds the No. 7 overall pick in the May 8-10 draft, and there could be multiple quarterbacks, including Manziel, already off the board by the time the Bucs are on the clock. NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah sees the Jaguars taking Manziel at No. 3 and the Bucs taking Manziel's college teammate and star receiving target, Mike Evans, in his latest mock draft.
