The New York Giants are holding their breath.
Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reported Thursday that veteran linebacker Jon Beason was carted away during the team's offseason practice session.
Coach Tom Coughlin later revealed that Beason injured the bottom of his foot, and he isn't sure of the injury's severity, per the New York Daily News.
The Giants' starting middle linebacker came up limping after a play and walked off the field under under his own power before trainers descended to examine Beason's lower right leg, per Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger
Still seen as a staple in the heart of Big Blue's defense, the 29-year-old Beason re-signed with the team in March on a three-year, $19 million deal.
Losing the former Carolina PanthersPro Bowl run-stuffer would leave New York paper-thin at the linebacker position.
Having previously suffered a left Achilles' rupture before going under the knife for microfracture surgery on his right knee, Beason's health has been an issue throughout his career.
We'll update this post as we learn more about Beason's status in New York.
UPDATE: Beason will need surgery after suffering a sesamoid fracture in his right foot, NFL Media's Kimberly Jones reported Friday, per a source aware of the diagnosis. He's expected to miss 12 weeks, and the team later announced the news.
