Jonathan Martin says the best way to forget about a scandal that has partially defined him is to simply not think about it at all.
"You know, honestly I haven't given it much thought," Martin said, via ESPN.com. "I've just been looking forward to each day. And now, getting here, I'm looking forward to being a member of the Panthers and to compete and play in this great game, and do whatever I can to help this team win."
While it's not surprising given his competitive nature, the weight of a locker room-wide scandal that dominated the Dolphins' 2013 season had many thinking he would eventually hang it up for good.
Now on this third team, on an offensive line that seems plenty wide open, Martin is looking to make a run at a ho-hum cast that includes former Titan and Raven Michael Oher. Oher is currently penciled in on the left side.
If nothing else, the legitimate opportunity will help him avoid the things he's done talking about.
"That is a situation for the past," Martin said. "I don't think about it. I try not to catch the headlines, positive or negative. I'm focused on what I can do for my career moving forward."
