Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor became the most high-profile player to wear a Guardian Cap in the preseason during Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
Taylor was one of a handful of Colts to don the caps, which have been proven to reduce the force from head contact.
In April, the NFL announced players would be permitted to wear the caps during the 2024 season in the league’s effort to increase player health and safety with an onus on preventing head injuries.
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman James Daniels wore a cap in his team’s preseason game against the Houston Texans on Friday, while Colts running back Zavier Scott, tight end Kylen Granson, safety Rodney Thomas and linebacker Grant Stuard joined Taylor.
“Our (medical and equipment) guys here do a great job of keeping us informed,” Scott said, via the Indianapolis Star. “They’ve done the testing, and I don’t know the numbers, but they say it (offers) a significant reduction in concussions.”
League research when Guardian Caps debuted in 2022 said they can reduce head contact force by 10% if one player is wearing them and 20% if all players are using them.
