New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma's 2013 season lasted one game.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Vilma was placed on season-ending injured reserve, only one game after being activated from the IR-recall list. The team later confirmed the move.
There is no early indication whether he aggravated the knee injury that kept him out early this season or if he suffered a new injury.
The 31-year-old recorded one tackle Sunday in New Orleans' 26-20 loss to the Jets. As Rapoport pointed out, it's safe to start pondering if Vilma's NFL career might be over.
The Saints' much-improved defense has gotten along swimmingly without Vilma. David Hawthorne has been solid since replacing the veteran linebacker.
