Josh Freeman's minimal trade value just took another hit. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network's "NFL GameDay Morning" that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers declared the quarterback inactive for Sunday's game because he missed more than one team meeting during the week.
This has grown personal between Bucs brass and Freeman. He went from being the starting quarterback to No. 3 on the depth chart in the span of one week, and there have been countless reports about Freeman's lack of accountability over the last month.
Freeman's agent has done his client no favors by not allowing him to speak to local media and then conducting a national interview without the team's permission. Freeman's big salary is guaranteed for the rest of the season, which makes it unlikely that any other team will give up a draft pick for him. All these reports about Freeman's immaturity and tardiness make it harder for the Bucs to unload him.
The situation has become a distraction for coach Greg Schiano. We wonder if Tampa Bay will offer to pay the vast majority of Freeman's salary to another team just to unload him for a conditional draft pick. Freeman seems unlikely to ever take a snap again for the Bucs.
Meanwhile, Bucs wide receivers Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams both are active and ready to help rookie QB Mike Glennon in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
