The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are open to tradingJosh Freeman after sending the five-year veteran to the bench in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.
That feeling is mutual.
A source involved in the situation tells NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Freeman would like to be traded to a place where he could play. This comes one week after the quarterback denied that he had requested a trade.
Although several teams are in need of a quarterback, our Freeman Trade Tracker reached the conclusion that there are too many factors working against a swap before the Oct. 29 deadline.
Rapoport spoke Wednesday with two NFL general managers, both of whom believe Freeman will have no suitor unless a starter goes down with an injury.
In addition to the $6.44 million remaining on Freeman's salary, another major hurdle is the damage done to his reputation under coach Greg Schiano the past two years.
According to Rapoport, Freeman is not viewedas a hard worker and other teams are aware that the locker room did not object to his removal as the starter.
Schiano reportedly grew disillusioned last season with Freeman's reluctance to function as a "fiery, take-charge guy" who would command respect from his teammates.
It's quite a shift in perception since the pre-Schiano days, when Freeman was viewed as a mature team leader and the face of theBuccaneers franchise.
