The Cleveland Browns brought in Josh McCown last season in part because of his willingness to work with young quarterbacks, like Johnny Manziel. While the Manziel project is kaput, McCown reiterated that he's willing to help mentor whatever young signal-caller Cleveland brings in this season.
"My expectation is to come into work and be available and be ready to do whatever's asked of me," McCown told NBC Sports Radio on Tuesday, via Pro Football Talk. "If that's to bring along a draft pick and to start until that guy's ready, then I'm willing to do that. If that's to go the full 16, I'm excited about doing that. If that's to help that guy as he takes over, whatever my role, whatever's asked of me, I'm just here to win football games. Whatever my role is, I'm all in. I just want to help."
The Browns sit with the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and could have their choice of quarterbacks -- if the Tennessee Titans don't trade the No. 1 overall pick to a different QB-needy team.
NFL Network Draft Analyst Mike Mayock has North Dakota State's Carson Wentz ranked as his No. 1 quarterback, with Cal's Jared Goff as No. 2. Mayock said that Goff is more polished and ready to step in right away, while he sees Wentz with a higher upside down the road.
There have also been rumors about the possibility the Browns could chase Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler once free agency opens. If Hue Jackson sees Osweiler as a must-have, the Browns could outbid Denver.
Whatever path Cleveland takes to secure younger talent, having McCown to help tutor and play, if necessary, will help take some of the pressure off.
