PHILADELPHIA -- Washington Redskins kicker Kai Forbathon Sunday set the NFL record for consecutive field goals to begin a career with 17 in a row.
Forbath kicked field goals of 45 and 42 yards in the first half against the Philadelphia Eagles. Garrett Hartley had kicked 16 in a row for the New Orleans Saints.
Forbath was Washington's choice after Billy Cundiff missed 5 of 12 field-goal attempts to start the season. He won an off-day tryout over retread veterans Olindo Mare and Josh Brown.
Forbath won the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker as a junior at UCLA in 2009.
