Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs' new regime have started to prune the roster they inherited.
The Chiefs announced on Tuesday that they released wide receiver Steve Breaston and tight end Kevin Boss. Neither move comes as a big surprise.
Boss' future in the NFL is sadly uncertain because of his history of concussions. Breaston was brought to Kansas City by Todd Haley, but his production fell off a cliff in 2011. Breaston could barely get on the field last year after totaling 785 yards in 2011.
There should be a role for Breaston, 30, as a slot man somewhere. But he was due almost $4 million in 2013.
Moves like these could help the Chiefs sign big-ticket items like wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and tackle Branden Albert. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that the Chiefs are in long-term talks with both players. One of them could wind up getting the franchise tag.
