Kolb suffered a right thigh contusion during Monday's practice after taking a knee from backup nose tackle David Carter. Kolb is expected to return to the field Wednesday.

Acquired in exchange for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2012 second round draft pick, and signed to a five-year, $62.1 million contract extension, Kolb is in an open competition with John Skelton for the Cardinals' starting job.

Whisenhunt has been adamant that finances and the cost to acquire the quarterback will not be a determining factor in who wins the job, which is partly why this competition made the Top 5 in our position battles series earlier this month.

Starting the first game of the preseason is a good sign for Kolb, but as Urban notes, it would not be a surprise if Skelton starts one, possibly two of the Cardinals' five games this preseason.
