The injury gods seem to be calling out to London Fletcher, attempting to make the Washington Redskins linebacker appear mortal like the rest of us.
Last month, Fletcher overcame balance and hamstring issues to keep his consecutive games streak alive, which now stands at 234 games. Now Fletcher, 37, is dealing with a sprained left ankle that has kept him out of practice the past two days.
The Redskins play on Thanksgiving against the Dallas Cowboys this year, which adds another imposing hurdle for the 15-year veteran. Fletcher said he doesn't anticipate on testing the ankle until pregame warmups on Thursday.
"The fact that it's a short week doesn't help," Fletcher said Tuesday, via CSNWashington.com. "That's my main concern; I have three less days to heal. Only thing I can do is get as much treatment as possible. Let the training staff do their thing and see how I feel in pregame. That will be pretty much the deal."
Fletcher's 234-game playing streak is tied with Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Ronde Barber for the longest active streak in football.
"There's a reason he's played all those games," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "It's because he plays when he's hurt. Hopefully he'll be able to play, but I can't tell you for sure."
In other injury news, wide receiver Pierre Garcon (foot) was limited in Tuesday's practice. Shanahan is concerned how Garcon's foot will react on the artificial turf at Cowboys Stadium. Garcon is currently riding a one-game playing streak.
