Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy is done with Gator football, and Gator football is done with him.
And no matter how much praise Florida coach Will Muschamp heaps upon his departing junior cover man, one gets the sense both were ready to move on.
"There are a lot of factors that go into making these individual and personal decisions and I'm 100 percent supportive of Loucheiz's choice to enter into the NFL draft,'" Muschamp said. "Loucheiz has come a long way from when I sat in his living room with his family during the recruiting process and he also knows his work is not done."
Purifoy (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) made some big plays for UF this season. He picked off two passes, broke up seven others, made two sacks, forced a fumble, recovered another, and even blocked a kick. He is, by all accounts, a brilliant special-teams player.
But what about under the surface?
For orlandosentinel.com, Purifoy played well below expectations. He was suspended for the first game of the season, and made Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin look like Jerry Rice on Saturday. As well, he posted less than half as many tackles this season as he did a year ago, and some of the ones he missed were glaringly noticeable.
Still, the measurables he establishes at the NFL Scouting Combine could cover for a lot of blemishes on his resume. According to the report, he has been timed as low as 4.37 in the 40-yard dash.
