LSU coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were fired Sunday, the school announced in a media release Sunday afternoon.
LSU (2-2) lost to Auburn Saturday, 18-13, after what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown for LSU was overturned on a replay review. The school also said in the release that assistant coach Ed Orgeron will serve as interim coach.
The Tigers' offense has struggled this season despite the presence of one of the nation's top rushers in junior Leonard Fournette. LSU has failed to score in the fourth quarter through four games this season, and benched quarterback Brandon Harris in favor of Purdue transfer Danny Etling last week.
Cameron coached the Miami Dolphins in 2007, and has extensive experience as an NFL assistant coach as well, most recently as offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens.
Orgeron is certainly familiar with an interim coaching role. He served as USC's interim coach following the firing of Lane Kiffin in 2013.
LSU lost its season opener to Wisconsin 16-14, at Lambeau Field, and fell to 2-2 to Auburn Saturday in shocking fashion. After an apparent touchdown pass from Etling to D.J. Chark on the game's final play, officials ruled that LSU did not get the snap off before time expired, resulting in an 18-13 Auburn win. Kicker Daniel Carlson scored all of Auburn's points on six field goals. Fournette rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries.
Orgeron takes over a Tigers team that plays host to Missouri Saturday with a 1-1 SEC record.
