LSU defensive tackle Anthony Johnson announced his intention to turn pro and forgo a season of college eligibility via Twitter Thursday, becoming the first of at least seven Tigers underclassmen to finalize the same decision.
Johnson, in his first year as a full-time starter for the Tigers, didn't meet expectations. He delivered nine tackles for loss and three sacks among 35 tackles, but made limited impact in several key games, including LSU's losses to Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss.
At 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, Johnson is known to have stellar athleticism, evidenced by his nickname "Freak." As such, he will more than likely impress at the NFL Scouting Combine next month. His athleticism lends itself to scheme versatility at the next level, perhaps allowing him to play defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, or almost anywhere along a 4-3 front.
LSU is also awaiting decisions on six other underclassmen: defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, running backs Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue, and left tackle La'El Collins.
