INDIANAPOLIS -- Mackensie Alexander won't be able to back up his talk while he's at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine.
After proclaiming himself the NFL draft's best cornerback with profound confidence, the former Clemson star isn't participating in combine drill work and is dealing with a hamstring issue, according to NFL Media's Kimberly Jones. By this point, Alexander must be tired of pesky hamstring issues that have affected him since the Tigers beat Oklahoma in a College Football Playoff semifinal on Dec. 31. It was a concern in practice for Alexander in preparation for the national championship game against Alabama, and he aggravated the injury during the Crimson Tide's 45-40 title win.
Clemson's pro-day event (March 10) is just 10 days away, so it's not as though Alexander has much time to feel better prepared. Top prospects who can't participate in either the combine or their school's scheduled pro day sometimes hold an individual on-campus workout at a later date.
If Alexander isn't ready in 10 days, that would likely be his next move.
