Marshall's game Thursday night at Tulsa will kick off at 7:36 p.m. ET, which marks, to the minute, the 43rd anniversary of the plane crash that killed 75 Marshall players, school officials and crew members.
Further, Marshall players will wear special helmets with a "75" emblazoned on the sides.
This will be the fifth time Marshall has played a game on Nov. 14, but the first time since the tragedy that it has played a road game on that date. The contest will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1.
Marshall was returning home from a loss to East Carolina when a chartered Southern Airways Douglas DC-9 crashed into a hill just short of the airport in Huntington, W.Va. The plane was carrying 37 members of the football team, eight members of the coaching staff, 25 boosters and five crew members.
The movie, "We Are Marshall," depicted the event and its aftermath.
"Our kids will be a proud bunch with that '75' on their helmets," Marshall coach Doc Holliday said in a story on the school's website. "They all understand the history and the tradition of the program, the sadness, the emotion, the coming back from that to win championships ... what it's all about. And they'll be reminded of it before the game and just what that '75' means. But they don't need reminding."
There is a fountain on the Marshall campus honoring those who died. As per custom, the fountain will be turned off for the winter during the afternoon of Nov. 14.
