A very familiar name has emerged as a candidate for the vacant head-coaching job in Tampa Bay.
Marty Schottenheimer will interview with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, according to a league source.
The Bucs are conducting interviews off-site for the most part as front-office officials are on the road. The Bucs were interviewing former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress on Monday.
Schottenheimer and Childress will join Mike Sherman and Jerry Gray as coaches who interviewed with Tampa Bay since Raheem Morris was fired Jan. 2. Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips also is expected to meet with the team later this week. Numerous league sources believe Sherman is well-positioned to get the job, though, and a decision could come this week.
Schottenheimer's last NFL coaching experience came with the San Diego Chargers. He surprisingly was fired after the 2006 season, despite going 14-2 in the regular season (San Diego was knocked off by the New England Patriots in the divisional playoffs). Schottenheimer, 68, has a career record of 200-126-1, but he's 5-13 in the playoffs.
Schottenheimer coached the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League in 2011.
