EJ Manuel is the future and Thad Lewis is intriguing, but the Buffalo Bills aren't done at quarterback.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Matt Flynn is in Buffalo and has a workout Monday with the Bills, who are waiting for Manuel -- their first-round draft pick -- to return from a knee injury. Rapoport added Monday morning that the sense is Flynn's workout is "just due diligence."
The Flynn tryout ostensibly has nothing to do with the mild foot sprain Lewis suffered in Sunday's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Besides, we doubt the Bills would play Flynn over Lewis, who connected on 19 of 32 passes for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Bengals.
"They said the X-rays looked good," Lewis told reporters after the game. "I should be fine. That's a great sign."
Flynn, amazingly, continues to field job offers after losing starting roles with the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders in back-to-back summers. It's a clear message out of Buffalo that backup Jeff Tuel isn't ready for prime time.
