Matthew Stafford 'excited to be back' with Rams

Matthew Stafford is a Los Angeles Ram for at least one more season.

“I’m excited to be back,” Stafford said Wednesday night, via the Los Angeles Times.

The 37-year-old gunslinger agreed to a revised contract to keep him in L.A. for the 2025 season. Coach Sean McVay recently admitted the pact will likely be looked at again in 2026 as the club and quarterback go year-by-year with their relationship.

Stafford declined to answer questions about recent negotiations, which included trade interest from the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders. His decision to return to Los Angeles will have a domino effect on the rest of the quarterback market as we head toward free agency next week.

Earlier in the day, Rams general manager Les Snead called Stafford’s return “a renewal of vows” -- a phrase others have used to describe the deal.

Stafford chuckled at Snead’s phrasing: “Les is a man of interesting words. I love Les. Whatever he wants to say, he can say. I just know I’m excited to be back.”

Stafford’s comments came after he and his wife, Kelly, announced they’d be donating jerseys and equipment to the Pasadena High School football team and a local youth program affected by wildfires.

“It’s fun to be a little bit of a part of their team now,” Stafford said. “Just happy to be able to do those kinds of things, and it’s fun to be around a bunch of young guys that love playing the game and love playing together.”

In four years in L.A., Stafford has led the Rams to the playoffs three times, including a Super Bowl victory. On a growing roster with several youngsters primed for breakout seasons, the expectations in Los Angeles should be another deep postseason run in 2025.
