Winless after two weeks, the 0-2 Seahawks rest firmly behind the eight ball.
Sunday night's 27-17 loss to the Packers saw Seattle's offense hand the ball away on their final two drives, an unforgivable sin when facing Aaron Rodgers and his pristine Green Bay attack.
"I think we are in our own way right now," said defensive lineman Michael Bennett in defeat, per The Seattle Times. "That's a great way to put it. As good as that team is, we still had a chance to win the game with as many mistakes as we made."
The second of two severe fourth-quarter blunders came when Seahawks running back Fred Jackson fumbled the ball -- and the game -- away at the Green Bay 43 with less than a minute to go.
The first gaffe came earlier in the fourth quarter, when Wilson aimed a screen pass at running back Marshawn Lynch, only to see Packers reserve linebacker Jayrone Elliott pick off the lob. Elliott was then stripped of the ball, but officials awarded possession to Green Bay after searching the scrum.
Coach Pete Carroll argued that decision, telling The Times that Seattle tackle Justin Britt came up with the pigskin. NBC's cameras also showed the blocker strolling away from the pile with the ball in his hands.
"We had the football," Carroll said. "So I don't really understand that."
It wasn't just mistakes on offense, as Seattle's defense was guilty of sloppy play, with Bennett himself flagged for a trio of offsides penalties, leaving him to acknowledge: "I just (expletive) up."
As we mentioned on Sunday night's Around The NFL Podcast, it's downright ridiculous to doubt the Seahawks after their rough start -- beating the Packers in Lambeau is an otherworldly request.
