Two men have been arrested and charged this week for their involvement in the stabbing of Pittsbugh Steelers offensive lineman Mike Adams. While the police case moved forward, coach Mike Tomlin provided a positive update on Adams' recovery.
The Steelers coach said Monday that Adams was doing well, just two days after the offensive lineman was stabbed during an attempted carjacking on Pittsburgh's south side.
Kinkhabwala: Pairing up in Pittsburgh
After a rocky first season together, Ben Roethlisberger and Todd Haley are starting to gel, Aditi Kinkhabwala reports. **More ...**
"I visited with him a couple days this weekend. He's got great team support (and) family support," Tomlin said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We expect a full recovery. He realizes, of course, how fortunate he is. We're just glad he is going to be OK, and we're just taking it day by day.
"They're expecting six weeks or so," he went on. "He's going to go through a couple of weeks of inactivity until he can proceed with the next step, but obviously the next step for him is getting out of the hospital. We expect that to come within the next 24 hours, and he'll proceed from there."
Police said Monday that 25-year-old Michael Paranay of Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood was arrested and taken to Allegheny County jail on charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, attempted robbery and conspiracy.
Tuesday morning, police said they had made a second arrest in the case: Dequay Means, 26, also from Hazelwood. His charges, police said, include attempted homicide, aggravated assault and attempted carjacking. They were still looking for the third person.
According to a criminal complaint, quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Means told Adams to give him Adams' black Ford F-150 Raptor. Adams said, "You aren't gonna shoot me on the street in front of people."
Means responded, the complaint said, with "I want your car, or I'll shoot you in the face and kill you in front of everyone."
Adams told police it was Paranay who then punched him in the face. Another man -- who has not yet been arrested -- was the one who stabbed him, Adams told police.
