A Lubbock County judge announced Wednesday he would dismiss a defamation lawsuit brought by former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.
Leach, now the head coach at Washington State, said he would appeal the one-sentence ruling by Judge William C. Sowder in an attempt to continue the proceedings against ESPN, former ESPN college football analyst Craig James and Spaeth Communications, the public relations firm James hired.
Leach was fired by Texas Tech in Dec. 2009 following allegations that Red Raiders wide receiver Adam James, son of the former SMU and NFL running back, had been mistreated after suffering a concussion.
Leach previously attempted to sue Texas Tech for wrongful termination. That case was thrown out in February 2012 on the grounds that the state school had sovereign immunity.
