Missouri suspends QB Maty Mauk for South Carolina game

Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk has been suspended for Saturday's game against South Carolina.

The fourth-year junior, who has led the Tigers to one SEC East Division title and served as a part-time starter for another, violated team rules and will sit out the team's SEC home opener against the Gamecocks for disciplinary reasons, the school announced Tuesday night.

Mauk's suspension is not related to a legal matter, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch](http://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/mizzou/eye-on-the-tigers/mizzou-s-maty-mauk-suspended-for-south-carolina-game/article_22c84cb7-5c67-576c-873e-c3a60190b016.html#utm_source=[domain. Mauk missed a Monday media session to tend to what Pinkel described as a family situation, per the report. Mauk's father, Mike, underwent cancer surgery on Monday and Mauk was expected to be with his family that day, according to the report.

Backup left tackle Malik Cuellar also has been suspended.

Although Missouri is 3-1, Mauk has struggled this season. He has yet to pass for 200 yards in a game, despite a relatively light September schedule for the Tigers, and has already thrown four interceptions.

According to the Post-Dispatch, freshman Drew Lock will start in Mauk's place against the Gamecocks. A loss to Kentucky over the weekend dealt the Tigers a early blow in their bid to reach the SEC Championship Game for a third consecutive season.
