The NFL fined Cowboys offensive tackle Marc Colombo $5,000 on Thursday -- not for excessive celebration, but for hitting a defender late and behind the play during the second quarter of Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans, *The Dallas Morning News* reported.
Columbo's penalty was one of 12 called on the Cowboys, totaling 133 yards.
A second penalty on Colombo -- and the one that received attention -- was for excessive celebration after tight end Jason Witten scored a touchdown to tie the score at 27 with 4½ minutes left in the fourth quarter. Witten handed the ball to Colombo, who spiked it before the two leaped and bumped chests, with Colombo losing his balance on the landing and tumbling across the end zone.
The penalty on the Cowboys pushed back the kickoff, and Marc Mariani followed with a long return for the Titans, setting up a 1-yard touchdown by Chris Johnson with 3:28 left in the fourth quarter, sealing Tennessee's victory.
