For prospects, getting noticed at the NFL Scouting Combine in February is a good way to make a training camp roster.
But it's not the only way.
As training camps continue around the NFL, the rosters for 26 of the league's 32 teams include at least one player who participated in a 2015 NFL Regional Combine and/or the league's Super Regional Combine, which was held March 21 at the Arizona Cardinals Training Facility. One of them, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Shakim Phillips, caught two passes against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, including this 35-yarder, as the preseason opened with the Hall of Fame Game.
Three of those players -- Denzelle Goode of the Indianapolis Colts, the Baltimore Ravens' Tray Walker and the Washington Redskins' Austin Reiter -- were picked in the 2015 NFL Draft. The rest did enough to impress at a regional combine site to get a training camp look, 46 players in all. Another 17 players that participated in the inaugural Veteran Combine are in training camps, as well.
Six players who either attended a Regional Combine or the Veteran Combine saw action in the Steelers-VikingsHall of Fame Game.
Some of the top college players from regional combines trying to make an NFL roster include Atlanta Falcons DB Robenson Therezie (Auburn), Cincinnati Bengals DB Floyd Raven (Texas A&M), Dallas Cowboys WR George Farmer (USC), New England Patriots WR Chris Harper (Cal), and Washington Redskins WR Quinton Dunbar (Florida).
Veteran Combine participants in training camps across the NFL include Cardinals WR Ifeanyi Momah, Falcons WR Carlton Mitchell, Ravens WR Trent Steelman, Panthers TE Jamie Childers and DE Rakim Cox, Cowboys DE Ka'Lial Glaud, Lions DE Brandon Copeland, Packers DBs Ryan White and Kyle Sebetic, Colts DB Deveron Carr, Vikings DE Caesar Rayford and QB Mike Kafka, Saints OL Mike Golic, Jets DB Keon Lyn, Steelers DB Jordan Sullen, Rams DL Marcus Forston and Chargers OL Michael Huey.
