NFL roundup: Latest league news from Friday, Aug. 13

Eddie Goldman is finally on his way back to the field for the Chicago Bears.

The team officially announced Friday that Goldman has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Goldman went on the reserve list on Aug. 3.

The nose tackle opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns over COVID. There was some chatter over the summer that Goldman could retire. He also skipped the team's June minicamp.

In the end, Goldman reported to training camp last month. After his stint on the COVID-19 list, Goldman will return to a defense he's helped man since becoming a second-round pick in 2015. The gap-filler was sorely missed in the middle of Chicago's D last year. The hope is that the time off for the 27-year-old doesn't show when he gets back on the field.

In a corresponding move, the Bears waived receiver Thomas Ives.

Injuries/COVID-19

  • The Houston Texans placed offensive tackles Laremy Tunsil, Tytus Howard and Roderick Johnson on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Rapoport reported. The move means the Texans will be without their starting tackles, Tunsil and Howard, when they face the Packers on Saturday.
  • Dallas Cowboys starting defensive tackle Neville Gallimore suffered a hypertension of his left elbow against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night, Rapoport reported. Gallimore is set for an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity, Rapoport added. Coach Mike McCarthy considered it a "significant" injury after the game. A 2020 third-round draft pick for the Cowboys, Gallimore started nine games as a rookie nose tackle. Cowboys receiver Malik Turner injured his foot in Friday's game.
  • Arizona Cardinals safety Chris Banjo left Friday's game against the Dallas Cowboys with a hamstring injury. Banjo started four games for Arizona last season. Running back Jonathan Ward left the game with an ankle injury.
  • Tennessee Titans running back Darrynton Evans suffered knee injury early in Friday's game against the Falcons and did not return. Defensive lineman Trevon Coley (foot ), rookie safety Brady Breeze (ankle) and linebacker B.J. Bello (ankle) were also injured.
  • Baltimore Ravens receiver Rashod Bateman underwent successful core muscle surgery today with Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. Coach John Harbaugh told reporters that the team hopes Bateman will make it back sometime in September.
  • Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced running back Travis Homer (calf) and receiver D'Wayne Eskridge (toe) could be activated off the physically unable to perform list next week.
  • Buffalo Bills wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins was ruled out in the second half of Friday's game versus the Detroit Lions with a knee injury. Running back Antonio Williams suffered a stinger.
  • Atlanta Falcons defensive linemen Ta'Quon Graham (hand) and John Cominsky (head) were injured in Friday's loss to the Titans.

Suspensions

  • Free-agent running back Derrius Guice has been suspended for the first six games of the 2021 season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The suspension stems from Guice's domestic violence arrest in August 2020, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. Criminal charges were dropped in June, allowing NFL investigators to wrap up their personal conduct probe, Pelissero added.

Preseason news

  • Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Friday his starters would not play and that P.J. Walker would start at quarterback in the team's preseason opener Sunday against the Colts.

Retirements

  • Veteran running back Dion Lewis, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots, is retiring. Lewis also played for the Eagles, Titans and Giants.

Roster cuts

Roster signings/visits

  • Free-agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks visited the San Francisco 49ers, Rapoport reported.
