NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell first brought up the subject last May. He said the NFL should look for a more dignified way to release players, and that he wants help for players after they have been cut.
As this preseason's final cut-down day looms Saturday, the Palm Beach Post examined how the NFL is trying to make player cuts more humane, from the way the news is broached, to help from Player Engagement departments.
Former NFL executive Bill Polian said he is not sure how the cut-down process can be improved. The Dolphins, for instance, have the players talk to three different individuals -- including the head coach -- as they are advised of their release.
One player said attitude has a lot to do with the post-release experience.
