Don't call it a quarterback controversy. Nick Foles played lights out in Tampa on Sunday, but Michael Vick is going to get his job back when he's healthy enough to play.
Make no mistake: The Eagles can afford to wait until Vick is 100 percent ready, following Foles' performance Sunday in Philadelphia's 31-20 victory in Tampa against the Buccaneers. Foles was decisive. He threw a few pretty deep balls and looked comfortable in Chip Kelly's hurry-up offense. Foles finished with 296 yards on just 31 throws, with four total touchdowns.
Here's what else we learned:
- It hasn't always been pretty, but Kelly's team now is 3-3. That's good enough for a tie for first place in the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys. They became the third team in NFL history to rack up more than 400 yards on offense in each of the first six weeks of a season.
- Foles occasionally can throw an ugly pass, but he also had two beautifulbombs on the day to DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. The key with Foles: He seemed to know exactly what he was doing on each play. He rarely held the ball too long. When the Eagles dialed up deeper plays, he was protected well.
- It's a bad sign for the Buccaneers that they lost at home to Philadelphia on the same day they got a very nice performance from rookie quarterback Mike Glennon. Tampa moved the ball, and Glennon made a number of difficult throws on third-and-long. He went through his progressions. His interception came when his receiver stopped on a route.
- When Riley Cooper is getting open deep and making plays after the catch, you knows it's Philadelphia's day.
- LeSean McCoy continues to be one of the NFL's best players. He put up 171 yards from scrimmage. He could challenge Marshall Faulk's all-time yards from scrimmage record.
- Foles' two career games in Tampa: seven touchdowns and 677 passing yards. Foles owns Greg Schiano.
