Niner accuses Chiefs' Smith of inappropriate contact

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Shaun Smith has been accused of grabbing an opposing player's private parts for the second consecutive game, according to CSNBayArea.com.

San Francisco 49ers rookie right tackle Anthony Davis drew a penalty Sunday for retaliating against Smith during Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Chiefs.

"I think he got hit inappropriately," 49ers coach Mike Singletary said after the game. "After a while, there's only so much you can take. He (Davis) was wrong for retaliating and he knows that."

Davis' penalty occurred early in the third quarter, with the Chiefs leading 10-3.

"He tried to feel me," Davis said. "That's weird, right?"

Chiefs coach Todd Haley denied knowledge of any incident.

"I think these officials are the best of the best, as far as sports goes," Haley said during his Monday news conference. "No disrespect to other sports. But these guys are really good at what they do, and I'm sure when we do things that are outside the rules, a penalty flag will be thrown. And when that occurs it's brought to my attention. But that's really all I've got."

Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack accused Smith of grabbing his private parts during the Browns' 16-14 loss to the Chiefs on Sept. 19.

Mack said Smith, who played two seasons for the Browns before he was released last year, committed the dirty play during the second quarter.

"I don't think he should be able to do that," Mack said on Sept. 20. "I'm still fired up about it."

Mack was so enraged by what Smith did during a running play that he started to chase him toward Kansas City's sideline before turning around because Cleveland's punt team was coming onto the field. Mack gestured to the officials and pointed at Smith, who denied any wrongdoing.

"I don't have no comment," Smith said following the Browns game. "I don't recall doing anything like that. I'm not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don't know what that was all about."

Smith, signed by the Chiefs during the offseason, has played in 66 NFL games, including 29 starts, with the New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals, Browns and Chiefs. He has 167 tackles and two sacks in his career.
