“It is always a difficult decision to make roster moves during the season, and we did put considerable time and effort into making these moves," coach Mike Nolan said. "Taylor has exceptional skills, but we were not getting the production we needed at that spot. It was a tough decision to waive Bryan Gilmore at the final cut. I said at that time, that it was probably the most difficult decision I had to make in the two years being here because he is everything you are looking for in terms of work ethic and commitment. When we released Patrick prior to the first game I said I hoped at some point we could bring him back to help our offensive line."
The 6-foot-7, 300-pound Estes originally joined the 49ers as a seventh-round draft pick out of Virginia in 2005. A collegiate tight end, Estes was converted to tackle with the 49ers and played in seven games in 2005 and one last season. He played with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in the 2006 offseason. Estes was waived by the 49ers on Sept. 5 when the team added DT Attiyyah Ellison to the 53-man roster from the Baltimore practice squad.
Gilmore originally joined the 49ers as unrestricted free agent from Miami in the 2005 offseason. He played in all 16 games last season with the 49ers and finished with eight catches for 150 yards and had seven rushing attempts for 94 yards. The highlight of the his year came in the season-finale at Denver when he opened the 49ers game-winning drive with a 20-yard carry on a reverse followed three plays later by a 14-yard reception on third-down that helped position the team for the game-winning field goal. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Arizona in 2000 out of Midwestern State. After four years in Arizona (2000-03), he spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons with Miami.
Jacobs joined the 49ers in a trade with Washington last August after joining the Redskins as a second-round draft pick out of Florida in 2003. Keasey spent parts of the last three years on the 49ers practice squad. He originally made the Redskins 53-man roster as a linebacker as a rookie free agent out of Princeton in 2005. He was converted to a fullback when he joined the 49ers practice squad in December of 2005.
