This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have ticked a couple of names off their checklist of players deserving contract extensions, giving quarterback Colin Kaepernick and offensive tackle Joe Staleynewdeals.
General manager Trent Baalke would like to check off guard Mike Iupati and wide receiver Michael Crabtree from the list before they hit the open market next spring.
"We're going to try," Baalke said, per CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. "We're going to work at it, certainly. But at some point, you got to stop negotiating deals and let these guys concentrate on playing football. I don't know what point that is. We'll make that determination as a club.
"But we're certainly going to work toward that goal. Those are two very good football players, and guys we'd love to have in this organization for the long term."
According to Maiocco, the sides aren't believed to be remotely close on new contracts for either Crabtree or Iupati.
We should note Vernon Davis' name is not on this list, but he wants a new deal. Neither is guard Alex Boone mentioned, even though he is holding out for a pay raise. Both players have two years left on their contracts.
