Ole Miss star wide receiver went five consecutive games, dating back to last season, without posting 100 receiving yards.
Saturday night, it was about time.
Moncrief caught six passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns for what was by far his best performance of the season in a losing effort against Auburn Saturday. Moncrief caught TD passes of 49 and 13 yards, the longer of which was a spectacular grab that pulled the Rebels within 27-16.
For Moncrief, the Auburn game answered some questions about where the star junior had been in the Ole Miss offense this season. While he has been a steady contributor all season, he hadn't previously shown the explosive playmaking that sparked his 979-yard sophomore season a year ago. In a single night, Moncrief doubled his touchdown total for the season, now at four, and accounted for more than a third of his yardage total (now 355).
Surprisingly, he did it while recovering from a minor shoulder sprain.
Before Saturday, Moncrief's previous 100-yard effort came in an explosive seven-catch, 173-yard, three-touchdown performance in the annual Egg Bowl against rival Mississippi State.
