Packers executive Wied to take leave for personal reasons

Green Bay Packers executive Jason Wied is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team for "personal reasons."

Wied, the Packers' vice president of administration/general counsel, has played a leading role in recent plans to expand Lambeau Field and develop the surrounding areas, among several other significant projects.

In a statement, Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said Wied is "going to take some time to take care of a personal matter" and the team's senior staff will take on his duties during his absence.

The 39-year-old Wied grew up in Green Bay and has been with the Packers since 2000. He has been seen as a potential long-term successor to Murphy.
