The Green Bay Packers appear to have solved their running back problem by signing Cedric Benson. The former Cincinnati Bengal is expected to start and split carries with second-year pro Alex Green to start the year.
It remains to be seen who starts for the Packers at cornerback. Davon House was set to win the job before hurting his shoulder in the team's preseason opener. That leaves former starter Sam Shields, longtime special teamer and occasional Packers fan punching bag Jarrett Bush, and second-round pick rookie Casey Heyward.
Bush looks like the favorite for now, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. I could come down to the team's final preseason game.
"Who does it on game day is what matters most," said Packers cornerback coach Joe Whitt. "So if your'e ever going to choose a time to do it, you can do it when the lights are on."
The Packers are loaded this season, but they have their share of question marks for a top-tier squad, including at left tackle. There isn't a potential trouble spot bigger than the cornerback situation.
