Pagano defending Tyrod Taylor 'a pain in the rear'

Somewhere Rex Ryan read the above headline and giggled with glee.

The Buffalo Bills' loquacious coach has always been enamored with mobile quarterbacks because of their effect on defenses, which is why we always considered Tyrod Taylor to have a legitimate chance at winning the starting gig.

Now that the dual-threat Taylor will start against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Ryan's "master plan" is falling into place. The Colts are already spending time worrying about how to defend the signal-caller and his threat to run.

"He's a pain in the rear," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said, via ESPN.com. "It's going to be a 60-minute battle for our guys. Let alone stopping the run, keeping the ball in front of us. Not allowing big plays and containing him."

Pagano spent a year with Taylor in Baltimore, so he has a little better knowledge of the 26-year-old's talent level than most, given the dearth of game tape on the signal-caller.

"The guy can really run," Pagano said. "He's going to extend plays. We have to do a great job on the back end when he breaks containment. When he does break containment and extends plays, we have to do a great job of plastering on wide receivers on the back end. He can beat you with his arm. He can beat you with his legs."

Whether Taylor can help beat anyone on the scoreboard is a different matter, one we'll have a better feel for after Sunday's bout.
