The New England Patriots have hired former NFL quarterback Chris Simms as a coaching assistant, according to the Boston Herald.
Simms is the son of former New York Giants quarterback and current television analyst Phil Simms. The younger Simms played his college ball at Texas, was drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003 and started 15 games for the Bucs in five seasons.
He finished his injury-marred career in 2010 after short stints with the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos.
The report said Simms' exact coaching duties with the Patriots are not yet clear.
