The New England Patriots' suddenly anemic passing attack is about to get a much-needed shot of iron.
NFL Media's Albert Breer reported on NFL Network's "Around the League Live" Wednesday that tight end Rob Gronkowski has a "very good chance" to play Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
Back and forearm surgeries made it difficult for Gronkowski to do weight training, but he's made significant strides in the past four weeks.
Breer did caution that nobody is speaking in absolutes on Gronkowski's status. It's still early to make a final call on his Week 4 availability, but the star appears likely to play barring a setback in practice.
A second key weapon in Tom Brady's arsenal is trending in the right direction as well.
Danny Amendola's groin was torn off the bone, Breer reports, which means the wide receiver can't exacerbate the injury by practicing. At this point, it's a pain tolerance issue.
Although there's no hard timetable for Amendola's return, he's confident that he will be back to 100 percent soon, after moving much better in practice this week than last.
The hope is that Amendola will be ready to return to game action within the next week or two.
Thanks in large part to the schedule-makers, the rest of the AFC East missed an opportunity to gain on the Patriots while the defense was doing the heavy lifting for the offense.
